This programme examines how a cluster of primary schools in rural Hampshire has worked together to tackle community cohesion through international links with schools in South Africa and Kenya. We visit the Hampshire schools towards the end of a three-year project in which teacher exchanges with the African schools have produced developments in teaching, learning and the curriculum. The impact on individual teachers, their schools and on inter-school working has been profound. With an initial focus on addressing stereotypes, the largely mono-ethnic Hampshire school communities have encountered different cultures and have engaged with diversity. The schools have conducted surveys to track attitudinal changes, and have found many positive outcomes. Pupils have more balanced viewpoints and are able to 'deal with difference' with greater confidence. Now they are forging links with schools representing diverse communities in the UK.
