This course introduces students to the basic concepts of English phonology. After reviewing basic phonetics, this course discusses three areas of English phonology: segmental phonology (phonological features, phonemes/allophones, phonological rules), suprasegmental phonology (syllable, stress), and morphophonology. Throughout the course, much emphasis will be placed on the application of the theoretical concepts to actual English examples.
