The purpose of this class is to introduce the biological sciences to non-science majors. The field encompasses a broad variety of topics that can be sub-categorized into the following four areas:
1. Life( Water, Carbon, Nutrient, Energy, Metabolism, Enzyme, Photosynthesis, Cellular Respiration
2. Cell: Cell, DNA, RNA, Protein, Mutation, Cancer, Inheritance, Genetics, Biotechnology
3. Human: Disease, Bacteria, Virus, Homeostasis, Organs, Organ Systems, Vaccine, Sex, Brain
4. Environment: Evolution, Natural Selection, Biodiversity, Ecology, Conservation, Sustainability
As an introductory course, it will not be possible nor beneficial to students to cover all topics in depth. Therefore, among the areas above, this course will focus more on the Cell and Human areas with an emphasis on the understanding of current biotechnological advancements and their applications in our daily lives.
