In this class, we discussed the speech production process, consonants, and vowel sounds. We also practiced phonetic transcription using the IPA symbols. |

This class continues with morphology. We examined the differences between morpheme and allophone. We also discuss morphological processes, such as blending, acronym, affixation, and the like. |

In this class we studied word categories and how to identify parts of speech, using both morphological and distributional criteria. |

In this class, we started our discussion on phrases, and we did an extensive review for the midterm examination. |

Here we discussed the syntax of simple sentences in English, and we practiced syntactic analysis of simple sentences. |

This lecture introduces the structure of complex sentences in English, namely, embedded sentences and coordinated sentences. |

This lecture discusses the issue of ambiguity, which refers to the possibility of a sentence to have two or more readings. Also, the topic of transformation, question, is covered. |

This lecture moves on to the domain of meaning. Here we discussed Entailment, Presupposition, and Deixis. |

In this lecture, Grice’s cooperative principle and conversational maxims are discussed. Also, we get started on Historical Linguistics, discussing such concepts as family tree, Indo-European, and comparative linguistics. |

In this lecture, we finished the history of English, discussing such issues as the Great Vowel Shift, and noun cases. We also did a review for the final exam. |
